about

"This is the first single from my upcoming EP 'TIDES'. I grew up in Nova Scotia, a small province on the east coast of Canada, where they have the highest tides in the world. The tides come in and out roughly twice a day and the waters travel 280 km (174 miles) of shoreline to the head of the Bay where, in the Minas Basin, the height of the tide can reach 16 meters (53ft).

I grew up a country girl, in rural Canada. All of my friend’s families were farmers, so I was running around in chicken barns, pork farms, cow farms and also spent a lot of time working in apple orchards and vineyards. As a kid growing up, there was such much to learn from nature. There are four very distinct seasons, that all have lessons to teach and incredible beauty to offer, but one thing that is constant is the tide. Nova Scotia has the highest tides in the world. They come in and out roughly twice a day and the waters travel 280 km (174 miles) and can reach 16 meters (53ft) in height. It’s a magical thing to look out at the ocean at high tide, and then watch it disappear until its as if there was no ocean there to begin with. It was just the norm for me as a kid. As I grew into my 20’s and moved further away from home, spent more time in cities I became more and more disconnected from nature, and possibly from myself, which I suppose is what you’re meant to do in your 20’s. But how ironic that we often need to lose the “idea of ourself” to find out the essence of who we really are and often it’s not that far away from where we began. I guess that’s the full circle we see often in life. Funny enough for me, it wasn’t until I moved to London, UK that I fully began to settle into myself, all while constantly developing, discovering and growing.

This project is kinda my ode to my home, Nova Scotia. It’s about my own self discovery and experiences at this point in my life. It’s very introspective and personal. I touch a lot on nature themes, life & death, family. Water is me telling myself to slow down. “What a perfect time to pay attention to the flowers”. Be more in tune with myself, with nature, with the universe. To focus on what’s important and knowing when to take a break and reconnect with mother nature. Every time I fall a bit too far off track, it’s like nature or “home” is calling me back to re-set."

Lyrics

V1:
What a perfect time to pay attention to the flowers
And how they dance for no one but the light,
and grow on their own time,
don’t that just sound nice.

Cause I don’t wanna waste away when
my spirits called to more than concrete spaces.
And I hear Mother Nature calling me back home when I need serenity
and a space to breath

Hook:
So I keep on running,
Running back to the water.
Running,
Running back to the water.

V2:
Oh sometimes I lose my focus,
and I forget where I’m going
man it gets dark sometimes, but it don’t feel like night
When theres no stars up in the sky,
and unfamiliar voices under city lights.

I don’t wanna fade away when
my soul is made for more than expectations.
And I hear Mother Nature calling me back home when I need serenity
and a space to breath

Hook:
So I keep on running,
Running back to the water.
Running,
Running back to the water.
